FOIA Request to Charlevoix County Election Division Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.
As part of our ongoing commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at North Michigan News have submitted a request under the Michigan Freedom of Information Act § 15.231 et seq. to the Charlevoix County Election Division. The request, sent on February 5, 2025, seeks information about all candidates running in the upcoming election.
Specifically, we have asked for an electronic list of all candidates including their first, middle and last names; the office they are running for; jurisdiction of the office; and party affiliation. We also requested contact information for each candidate which includes their address, phone number and email address.
As a media organization dedicated to transparency and accountability in public institutions, we believe that access to this information is essential for fulfilling our professional responsibilities. We have requested a fee waiver as a media professional given our role in disseminating information to the public.
