FOIA Request to Benzie County Election Division Regarding Information on Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.
In our continued commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at North Michigan News have sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Benzie County Election Division.
The request seeks information about all candidates running in the upcoming election. Specifically, we asked for each candidate's first, middle, and last name, the office they are running for, the jurisdiction of that office, and their party affiliation. We also requested contact information for each candidate, including their address, phone number, and email address.
As a media organization dedicated to transparency and accountability in public institutions, we believe access to such public records is essential in fulfilling our professional responsibilities. We also expressed our eligibility for a fee waiver as a media professional due to our role in disseminating this information to the public.
We await a response from the Benzie County Election Division and will continue our efforts to keep the public informed about their local government.
