FOIA Request to Missaukee County Election Division Regarding Information on Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.

In our continuous effort to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at North Michigan News have sent a request under the Michigan Freedom of Information Act § 15.231 et seq. to the Missaukee County Election Division. The request is for a list of all candidates running in the upcoming election.

The information sought includes not only the candidates' full names but also the offices they are running for and their jurisdiction. Additionally, we have asked for each candidate's party affiliation.

Furthermore, we have requested contact information for each candidate, including their address, phone number, and email address. This will allow us to reach out directly to candidates for comments or clarifications as necessary.

As a media organization, access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.

We look forward to receiving this information from the Missaukee County Election Division promptly so that we can continue our mission of informing the public about important local governmental affairs.
