FOIA Request to Manistee County Election Division Regarding Information on Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.
In our ongoing commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at North Michigan News have submitted a request under the Michigan Freedom of Information Act § 15.231 et seq. The request was sent to the Manistee County Election Division seeking information about the candidates running in the upcoming election.
The requested records include a list of all candidates with their first, middle, and last names. We also asked for details about the office they are running for and its jurisdiction. Party affiliation of each candidate is also sought as part of this request.
In addition to these details, we have requested contact information for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.
As a media organization dedicated to holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public, access to such public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. In light of our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.
