FOIA Request Sent to Leelanau County Election Division Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Leelanau County Election Division regarding the upcoming spring election candidates on February 5, 2025.

As part of our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs at North Michigan News, we sought records under the Michigan Freedom of Information Act § 15.231 et seq., preferably in electronic format.

Our request included a list of all candidates running for the upcoming election. We asked for each candidate's first, middle, and last name, the office they are running for, jurisdiction of the office, and party affiliation.

In addition to this information, we also requested all contact information for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.

At North Michigan News, we believe in holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. Given our role in disseminating information as a media organization, we have requested a fee waiver for this information request.

We continue to wait for a response from the Leelanau County Election Division and will keep our readers updated with any developments.
