FOIA Request to Cheboygan County Election Division Regarding Pre-Election Voting Machine Test Reports on October 30, 2024. As part of our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at North Michigan News have requested specific records under the Michigan Freedom of Information Act § 15.231 et seq.
The records requested are in relation to the pre-election testing of voting machines. Specifically, we have asked for a PDF format report that includes details such as the test date, machine manufacture, machine model number, and the status of the machine (whether it passed or failed the test).
As a media organization dedicated to holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public, access to these public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.
