Traverse City newspaper, school district in court over information requests and closed door meetings

The Traverse City Record-Eagle sued Traverse City Area Public Schools (TCAPS) in late January, alleging that the school board misused closed meeting sessions and violated the Open Meetings Act, and denied or delayed the publication’s Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests. The lawsuit names the school board and Sue Kelly, as an individual and in her capacity as board president.

Pure Michigan campaign funding cuts could cause decline in tourism

This fall, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer cut all funding for the Pure Michigan tourism campaign with a line-item veto. The 11-year-old campaign cost approximately $36 million this year and began with ads that featured actor Tim Allen’s voice and images of the state’s most-popular attractions.
