The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (GLIAC) has revealed its winter 2024-25 Commissioner's Award recipients, recognizing three athletes from Northern Michigan University's (NMU) swim and dive team. Camilla Carbone, Mia Strazny, and Leo Nolles earned the awards, becoming the 17th, 18th, and 19th recipients in the school's history and marking a significant achievement for the university as they are the third, fourth, and fifth from the NMU swim and dive program.

The GLIAC Commissioner's Awards recognize six female and six male student-athletes who demonstrate excellence both academically and athletically. These awards are given after each athletic season: fall, winter, and spring. NMU's recent recognition represents the first time three of its athletes have been honored simultaneously within one award period.

Graduate student Camilla Carbone concluded her season with this award, which she previously received, making it her second consecutive win. At the NCAA Division II Championships, she earned three All-America honors, including a first-team honor in the 100 backstroke. Carbone, pursuing an MBA and maintaining a perfect 4.00 GPA, also achieved great success at the GLIAC Championships this year.

Mia Strazny, a senior majoring in Biology and Physiology with a 4.00 GPA, plans to attend medical school in the fall. Her athletic accomplishments this season included three All-American titles at the NCAA Championships and four medals at the GLIAC Championships.

Leo Nolles, a junior focused on Athletic Coaching, also had an outstanding season. With a 3.69 GPA, Nolles became a six-time All-American, earning multiple individual medals at the NCAA Championships and being named GLIAC Male Swimmer of the Year after an impressive performance at the GLIAC Championships.
