The NMU Alpine Ski Team concluded their competition at Giants Ridge with a strong performance in the Slalom event, securing two gold medals and several top finishes.
In the men's category, Aaron Grzelak won the gold medal, while Reed Heathman secured a bronze. The team had six skiers in the top 10, showcasing their depth. "Aaron Grzelak claimed gold in the men's category," stated a team representative. Brad Seaborg narrowly missed a podium finish, coming in fourth place.
For the women's team, Reagan Olli led a podium sweep by taking gold. She was followed by Ella Wichert with silver and Tommie Springer with bronze. The Wildcats dominated the top 10 positions with seven athletes placing high. "The women swept the podium," noted another spokesperson.
Grzelak's winning times were 37.62 and 41.46 seconds for his runs, resulting in a total time of 1:19.08. Heathman's times were 38.94 and 42.02 seconds, totaling 1:20.96 to earn him third place.
Olli's performance was notable as she clocked 44.43 and 41.84 seconds for her runs, culminating in a total time of 1:26.27, making her second run the fastest among female competitors that day.
The NMU team will next compete at Spirit Mountain from January 27-28 as they continue their season.
