The Northern Michigan University (NMU) swim and dive team is set to commence its 2024-25 season with a meet against St. Cloud State. The competition will take place at the Helenbeck Pool on Friday, October 4, at 4 p.m., and will conclude on Saturday, October 5, at 10 a.m.

Head coach Heidi Voigt expressed her anticipation for the event: "It's going to be fun to get our racing juices flowing and see who steps up." Voigt is in her 15th season leading both the men's and women's teams. She noted that while she expects the women to perform well, the men will face a strong challenge from St. Cloud's men's team.

During the previous season, under Voigt's leadership, NMU's men secured second place and the women third at the GLIAC Championships. The women's team earned three gold medals, while the men's team garnered two. At the NCAA Championships, five events for women and eight for men received All-American honors.

Voigt highlighted recent evaluations from NMU's Green and Gold meet as beneficial for assessing both freshmen and returning athletes' abilities. She singled out members of the men's diving team for their impressive performances. "I'm pretty excited about our men's divers," she said. "Tobie Stiles put in a lot of work this summer and looks really good." Additionally, freshman diver Benaiah Schnurstein has caught her attention: "He looks really good so I'm excited to see how he does in his first competition."

The women's team benefits from strong upperclassmen leadership. Voigt remarked, "We have really strong junior and senior leadership on the women's side, and most of our NCAA team is returning, which I'm pretty excited about."
