NMU secures gold and silver in NCAA regional skiing championships

The NMU men's Nordic ski team began their competition at the 2025 NCAA Central Regional Championships in Ishpeming, Michigan, with strong performances in the 7.5k event. Luke Fricker secured a gold medal while Kristoffer Karsrud took silver, both finishing significantly ahead of other competitors.

Fricker completed his first 2.5k lap in 6:42.1, trailing only Karsrud initially, but went on to record lap times of 6:41.0 and 7:43.4, concluding with a total time of 21:06.6. His final two laps were the fastest among all participants.

Karsrud started with the quickest first lap time of the day at 6:35.1 and continued with times of 6:50.1 and 7:43.1, finishing just behind Fricker with a total time of 21:08.4.

Chase High from the College of St. Scholastica came in third place with a time of 21:35.0, approximately half a minute slower than Fricker and Karsrud.

Jonathan Clarke narrowly missed out on a podium finish, coming fourth with a time of 21:41.2. Other NMU participants included Hendrik Peterson who finished in 19th place at 22:38.5, Mathias Haugen who was placed 27th at 23:29.4, while Adrik Kraftson did not start.

The team is now preparing for the upcoming 20k mass start event scheduled for tomorrow at Al Quaal in Ishpeming, where the men's race will commence at 11:30 a.m., following the women's race which starts at 9:30 a.m.
