Senior guard Jacy Weisbrod has been named to the Preseason All-GLIAC First Team as the Northern Michigan University women's basketball team prepares for the 2025-26 season. The Wildcats are coming off a strong year, having reached the NCAA Tournament's Round of 32 for the second consecutive season and matching their best win total since 2000-01 with a 23-9 overall record.

Head coach Casey Thousand, entering her fourth year leading the program, has guided NMU to back-to-back 20-win seasons for the first time in over twenty years. Under Thousand, who holds a 60-32 record at Northern Michigan, the Wildcats finished last season with a 15-5 mark in GLIAC play and secured the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament.

Weisbrod returns after earning All-GLIAC First Team and D2CCA All-Midwest Region Second Team honors last year. She led NMU with an average of 13.4 points per game and was first in the GLIAC in three-point shooting, making nearly three threes per contest—a figure that ranked sixth nationally. Weisbrod scored at least 23 points in seven games and made 14 three-pointers across two late-season matchups against Purdue Northwest and Saginaw Valley State.

Fellow senior Sarah Newcomer also returns to anchor the perimeter after being named to the All-GLIAC Second Team last season. Newcomer started all 32 games, averaging nearly nine points per game along with contributions in rebounds and assists, while ranking second on the team with 61 made threes. Additional returning players include Alyssa Hill, CJ Romero, and Sydney Whitehouse.

The upcoming schedule features early non-conference tests as well as notable home games at Vandament Arena. The Wildcats begin their season November 7-9 in Erie, Pennsylvania before traveling to Wisconsin Dells for two more contests. Their home opener is set for November 20 against St. Cloud State, followed by Minnesota Duluth. Conference play starts December 4 at Parkside; NMU will host a total of thirteen home games this season.

With several experienced players returning, Northern Michigan aims to remain competitive within the GLIAC and pursue another postseason run.
