Representative Jack Bergman and House Budget Committee Chairman, Jodey Arrington, recently commissioned a report by the Government Accountability Office (GAO) to investigate allegations of misuse of funds by the Biden Administration. According to Representative Bergman, "Biden spent taxpayer dollars that were intended for border security to advance his leftist environmental agenda."
The report, as highlighted by the Daily Caller, revealed that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) redirected funds meant for the border wall towards environmental planning and other activities. Specifically, in 2021, DHS outlined plans to utilize these funds for purposes such as environmental planning, eminent domain actions, and environmental remediation efforts.
Furthermore, the GAO report indicated that DHS amended its plans in July 2022, prioritizing environmental remediation as a top expenditure category for the funds appropriated for fiscal years 2018-2021. This redirection of funds away from border security towards environmental initiatives has been met with criticism from Representative Bergman and others, who view it as a betrayal of the intended use of taxpayer funds and a compromise to national security.
The findings of the GAO report have brought to light what Representative Bergman describes as an "affront to the American People" and a "sabotage of our national security." The investigation led by Bergman and Arrington has exposed the mismanagement of appropriated tax dollars, sparking concerns over the Biden Administration's priorities in handling border security issues.
