For their role in driving greater engagement from the state's college students, the Michigan Department of State has received the 2020 Students Learn Students Vote Coalition Award, according to Michigan.gov.
Organizations receive this award for going to extraordinary lengths and efforts to engage students and mobilize voter registration, positive outcomes for democracy.
Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson was pleased with the award. “Students of all ages and their organizations, schools, colleges and universities across our state have been crucial partners with more than 1,600 clerks, tens of thousands of election workers and countless other nonpartisan organizations that helped Michigan carry out its safest, most secure election ever, which drew record-breaking turnout. Democracy is a team sport, and I am so impressed with and grateful to the many students and others who showed up to play for Michigan on Nov. 3," she told Michigan.gov.
The Students Learn Students Vote Coalition is an organization dedicated to ensuring that students' voices are heard and driving greater voter registration and engagement for college-aged young people around the country.
