The Northern Michigan Wildcats women's swimming team hosted the Wayne State Warriors for a skins meet at the PEIF Pool in Marquette. The event featured multiple relay and individual races, as well as diving competitions.
Northern Michigan secured 12 podium finishes out of the possible spots during the evening. The Wildcats swept both the 200 medley relay and 100 individual medley (IM) events. In diving, Kalina Ceglinski won both the 3-meter and 1-meter boards, continuing her recent success.
In the highlight of the meet, Evie DeCarlo won the skins elimination contest after placing second in freestyle, first in breaststroke, and second in backstroke before winning over Kenzie Stute in the butterfly finals. DeCarlo also took gold in the 100 IM, with Stute finishing second.
The competition began with ten teams participating in the 200 medley relay. NMU's B team—composed of Casas, Bonini, Schneider, and Keen—won with a time of 1:46.66. The A team (Stockinger, Zimpel, Moore, Arbic) finished second at 1:48.07, while the C team (Pierce, Araujo, Devine, Burda) placed third at 1:49.68.
The 100 IM saw six heats and included 42 swimmers from both schools. DeCarlo recorded the fastest time at 1:00.17 to secure first place ahead of Stute (second) and Schneider (third).
In the final event before skins—the 200 free relay—the NMU E team (Millward, Stute, Aarseth, Devine) won their heat at 1:43.85. The A team (Burda, Keen, Stockinger, Arbic) claimed first place in their heat with a time of 1:37.96.
For skins competition selection were Schneider, DeCarlo, Stute, and Wright from NMU. After several rounds based on different strokes drawn randomly—freestyle followed by breaststroke and backstroke—DeCarlo and Stute advanced to compete head-to-head in butterfly for the championship title.
On the diving boards during pool events Ceglinski scored first place in both disciplines; she earned a score of 252.68 on three meters and was joined on podium by Daly who placed second on three meters and third on one meter.
The Wildcats are scheduled to face Wayne State again tomorrow morning at PEIF Pool starting at 10 a.m.
