The Northern Michigan women's wrestling team has been projected to finish fifth in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) preseason poll, according to an announcement made by the league on Thursday. This marks the team's first season competing in the GLVC.
The preseason poll ranks McKendree first, followed by Grand Valley State, Quincy, William Jewell, and Northern Michigan. Upper Iowa and Davenport round out the poll.
Adam Wilson is entering his first year as head coach for the Wildcats and will lead a roster of 19 student-athletes during what is also the inaugural season of women's wrestling in the GLVC. "In his first season with the Wildcats, Adam Wilson will look to guide the roster of 19 student-athletes to the top of the conference in the inaugural season of women's wrestling in the GLVC," stated the league's announcement.
Northern Michigan starts its season ranked No. 22 nationally by NWCA. Individually, Alissa Caltagirone holds a national ranking of fifth at 145 pounds and is second in Region 4. Other regional rankings include Zhivanna Magdaleno at fifth for 117 pounds, Keaton Hood at third for 138 pounds, Sophia Bassino at fourth for 160 pounds, and Abbie Miles at third for 207 pounds.
The Wildcats will begin their competitive schedule at the Pointer Open hosted by UW-Stevens Point on Saturday, November 1.
