FOIA Request to Ogemaw County Election Division Regarding Voting Machines Testing Report on October 30, 2024.
As part of our ongoing commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at North Michigan News have submitted a request for records under the Michigan Freedom of Information Act § 15.231 et seq. The request was sent specifically to the Ogemaw County Election Division.
Our request is for the pre-election test reports of voting machines used in the county's elections. We have asked for these reports to be provided in PDF format and include specific fields such as the test date, machine manufacture, machine model number, and machine status (whether it passed or failed).
As a media organization, access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.
