Rep. Jack Bergman expressed disappointment in the response of the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) officials at a public input meeting regarding the Iron Mountain Processing & Distribution Center in Kingsford, Michigan. Bergman highlighted the lack of clarity and understanding displayed by USPS representatives during the meeting.
Bergman criticized the bureaucratic language used by USPS presenters, stating, "the overly bureaucratic double-speak of the agency’s presenters, along with their ignorance of the most basic facets of the Iron Mountain and Kingsford area were inexcusable." He also noted the passion and expertise of postal workers, business owners, and community members present at the meeting.
During the meeting, attendees raised concerns about changes in the mail collection schedule and the elimination of one-day shipping in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Bergman pointed out that USPS presenters provided distorted and incomplete answers, failing to address the genuine concerns raised by the community.
Highlighting the importance of timely delivery of prescriptions for Veterans in Michigan’s First Congressional District, Bergman criticized USPS for its ignorance of the Iron Mountain VAMC's existence and significance. He emphasized that the proposed changes to the Iron Mountain P&DC lacked understanding of the community and its needs.
In his letter to Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, Bergman expressed skepticism about USPS's claim that no final decision had been made regarding the Iron Mountain P&DC. He raised concerns about the language used in USPS's response to his previous letter, indicating a potential bias towards converting the facility to a Local Processing Center (LPC).
Bergman concluded by urging USPS to address the substandard review process and ensure that the needs of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan are not disregarded due to bureaucratic incompetence. He requested a prompt response to the questions and concerns outlined in his letter.
