Last night, Representative Bergman joined with his colleagues to pass a package of bipartisan health reforms through the House, which aim to enhance price transparency, decrease healthcare costs, extend critical healthcare programs, and increase access to health information for patients. The passage of H.R. 5378, also known as the Lower Costs, More Transparency Act, received broad bipartisan support, sending a resounding message of commitment to rural healthcare systems across the country, particularly in Michigan's First District, which is home to more than 70 Community Health Centers.

One of the key provisions of this legislation is the extension of mandatory spending for Community Health Centers. These centers play a crucial role in providing healthcare services to patients in rural and underserved areas. By preventing cuts to hospitals that care for uninsured and low-income patients, the bill ensures that these vulnerable populations continue to receive the care they need.

In addition, the Lower Costs, More Transparency Act aims to lower out-of-pocket costs for seniors who receive medication at hospital-owned outpatient facilities or doctor's offices. This provision will provide much-needed relief to our elderly population, who often face high healthcare expenses.

Another important aspect of the bill is the expansion of access to more affordable generic drugs. By increasing competition in the pharmaceutical market, this measure will help drive down the costs of prescription medications, making them more accessible to patients.

Furthermore, the legislation mandates that health insurers and pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) disclose negotiated drug rebates and discounts. This requirement will shed light on the true costs of prescription drugs, ensuring greater transparency and helping patients make informed decisions about their healthcare.

Representative Bergman expressed his satisfaction with the passage of the bill, stating, "The Lower Costs, More Transparency Act is a major win for our rural and remote healthcare communities. This legislation takes a major step to provide a more fiscally sound future for our children and grandchildren while providing funding for our Community Health Centers." He also expressed his pride in the overwhelming support the legislation received in the House and his commitment to fighting for greater medical transparency and affordability for his constituents.

The Lower Costs, More Transparency Act represents a significant step toward improving healthcare costs and transparency in the United States. By extending funding for Community Health Centers, preventing cuts to hospitals serving vulnerable populations, lowering out-of-pocket costs for seniors, expanding access to affordable generic drugs, and requiring greater disclosure of drug rebates and discounts, this legislation addresses key issues in our healthcare system. As it moves forward, it has the potential to make a positive impact on the lives of countless Americans.
