State Representative Ken Borton is joining other state officials in calling on hunters to prioritize doe hunting this year. Concerns have been raised about the rising deer populations, which can lead to various problems such as damaged crops, the spread of diseases, and an increase in car accidents.

"Too many deer can become dangerous for Michigan," stated Borton, a Republican from Gaylord. "Hunters are Michigan's first line of defense in conserving our environment. This year, we are asking them to let a couple of big bucks walk and instead focus on hunting does."

Michigan has been experiencing a decline in the number of hunters each year, and coupled with a growing focus on trophy hunting, it has contributed to the overpopulation of deer. State officials believe that if hunters target adult female deer, it could help manage the overpopulation issue.

"We have all witnessed the increasing number of deer found dead by the side of the road," Borton remarked. "This has also been accompanied by reports from farmers about the growing damage to their crops. It is time for outdoorsmen to step up and embrace Michigan's conservationist history. Everyday hunters are the best way for the state to address this problem effectively."

The call for hunters to prioritize doe hunting comes as a proactive approach to mitigate the negative impacts of deer overpopulation. By targeting adult female deer, hunters can contribute to maintaining a more balanced and sustainable deer population in Michigan.

It is crucial for hunters and outdoorsmen to recognize their role as stewards of the environment and actively participate in conservation efforts. By focusing on doe hunting, hunters can help prevent crop damage, reduce the risk of diseases spreading among deer populations, and decrease the number of car accidents caused by deer.

State Representative Ken Borton is urging hunters to prioritize doe hunting this year as a means to manage the rising deer populations effectively. By doing so, hunters can play a crucial role in conserving Michigan's environment and ensuring a more sustainable future for the state.
