Michigan saw John Roth for State Representation Committee in a city associated with Grand Traverse County spend the most during Q1 2021

John Roth for State Representation Committee spent the most out of all the political committees based in a city associated with Grand Traverse County during the first quarter of 2021, according to the Michigan Department of State.

The committee paid $528 to two vendors.

The largest expense was $180 paid to Traverse City-based Great Lakes Potato Chips for chips for caucus.

The second largest political spend from a committee operating in a city within Grand Traverse County during the quarter came from Friends of Dan Oneil. It spent $348 during the time period on two different vendors.

What’s known as “dark money,” which comes from political non-profits and shell corporations, has greatly increased expenditures and donations in recent elections to record-breaking highs.

Governor Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan accounted for the largest expenditures among the state candidates, surpassing $33 million in total.
