Northwestern Michigan College employee Margaret Johnson donates $289 to Bernard Sanders' campaign

Margaret Johnson, an employee at Northwestern Michigan College, donated $289 to Democratic Party candidate Bernard Sanders, according to the Federal Election Commission.

According to records, there have been $2,027 in campaign contributions made by individuals affiliated with Northwestern Michigan College as of November 3. Approximately 75.3 percent, or $1,527, of these contributions were made to Democratic Party candidates and committees.

Peggy Johnson's contribution of $1,238 to Democratic Party Gary Peters was the largest contribution made by someone affiliated with Northwestern Michigan College since January 1, 2019.

According to an Inside Higher Ed analysis of federal elections data, individuals that were affiliated with colleges and universities have donated five times more money to Joe Biden than to President Trump. A study by Pew Research in 2017 found that 58 percent of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents thought colleges and universities have a negative impact on the way things are going in this country.
