As Michigan approaches its state primary election next month, Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson's office is reporting that more than 1.6 absentee ballots have been sent out, which is more than double the amount sent out during the same time period for the 2016 elections.
According to a July 14 press release on Michigan.gov, more than 1.6 million absentee ballots have been mailed and more than 300,000 completed ballots have already been returned.
The release also states that as of July 14, just 21 days prior to the election, over 1.7 million absentee ballot applications were received, over 1.6 million ballots had been mailed out and more than 300,000 had already been returned to the Secretary of State's office. In July of 2016, at 21 days before the election, the Secretary of State's office stated it had received about 475,000 absentee ballot requests, issued almost the same amount and had almost 135,000 ballots returned.
Michigan's primary election is Aug. 4, and residents can get all of the voter registration and election information at Michigan.gov/vote or by calling the Department of State Information Center at 888-SOS-MICH.
