State Rep. Daire Rendon (R-Lake City) is seeking to reverse cuts made by the governor and restore funding to a community health care project.
House Bill 5073 returns $40,000 to opioid intervention program Project Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes (ECHO), according to press release issued by Rendon.
Rendon said in the press release that northern Michigan was hit hard by the opioid epidemic and that rural communities needed more clinicians to treat substance abuse.
"The governor used those in need of opioid intervention services as bargaining tools to get her 45-cent per gallon gas tax increase," Rendon said. "That is shameful, and I refuse to play that political game. This plan will restore funding for Project ECHO and help those in our area who need these services have access to the care they need."
The bill was referred to the Committee on Appropriations on Oct. 8.
