After a successful start to the 2025-26 season, the Northern Michigan Wildcats women's basketball team is set to play two non-conference games in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin. The Wildcats will face Upper Iowa on Friday, November 14 at 6 p.m. ET and Lewis on Saturday, November 15 at the same time.
The Wildcats began their season with a three-game sweep at the CCA Tip-Off Classic in Pennsylvania, defeating California (Pa.) 66-57, Gannon 60-58, and Edinboro 65-50. Jacy Weisbrod led the team with 51 points and made 11 three-pointers over the weekend. Sydney Whitehouse contributed 31 points along with defensive plays including three steals and three blocks.
Head coach Casey Thousand commented on the upcoming games: "Both teams are from the GLVC and it's one game at a time, but we are focused on us. We have to make sure we have our stuff right before we are more focused on other teams."
Through their first three games, Northern Michigan has outscored opponents by a combined score of 191-165 and holds an average of 63.7 points per game. The team also leads in rebounding with a margin of 118-84. Alyssa Hill leads NMU in rebounds with an average of 7.7 per game and has a field goal percentage of .611.
Weisbrod, who was named to the Preseason All-GLIAC First Team, is averaging 17 points per game with strong shooting percentages both from beyond the arc (.524) and overall (.459). Other contributors include CJ Romero—who leads in assists—and Sarah Newcomer, who has made six three-pointers so far this season.
Upper Iowa will be playing its first official game of the season against NMU; last year they finished with a record of 13-14 overall and went .500 in conference play. This will be their first meeting against NMU since the late seventies.
Lewis opens its regular season this weekend after playing exhibition matches earlier this month. Last year Lewis finished with a record of 26-4 and reached the NCAA Tournament before being eliminated by Wayne State.
Northern Michigan's next home games are scheduled for November 20 against St. Cloud State and November 21 against Minnesota Duluth.
