The Northern Michigan University women's wrestling team is set to start its new season in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, at the Pointer Open hosted by UW-Stevens Point. The event is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. ET on Saturday, November 1.
Adam Wilson takes over as head coach for his first season with the Wildcats. The team enters the 2025-26 campaign ranked No. 22 in the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) poll. This year also marks Northern Michigan's participation in the inaugural season of women's wrestling within the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC), where they are ranked fifth in the preseason poll.
Several wrestlers received individual rankings ahead of the season. Alissa Caltagirone holds a national ranking of fifth at 145 pounds and is second in Region 4. Zhivanna Magdaleno is ranked fifth regionally at 117 pounds, Keaton Hood third at 138, Sophia Bassino fourth at 160, and Abbie Miles third at 207.
Reflecting on last season, Northern Michigan finished third at regionals and had three athletes compete at the National Championships. Seven student-athletes earned Scholar All-America honors, while Yu Sakamoto secured a regional title and placed third nationally—the best result in program history.
