Northern Michigan women’s golf prepares for Panther Invitational in Augusta

The Northern Michigan University women's golf team is set to participate in the Panther Invitational, also known as the GLIAC Preview, at Stoatin Brae Country Club in Augusta, Michigan. The tournament will take place from Saturday, October 11 to Sunday, October 12 and is hosted by Davenport University.

Eleven teams will compete in the event, featuring several regional and conference opponents. The field includes GLIAC members such as Davenport (ranked #75), Saginaw Valley State University (SVSU) (#90), Purdue Northwest (#125), and UW Parkside (#157). Other notable regional competitors are Ohio Dominican (#104), Northwood University (#115), Lewis (#130), and West Chester University (#139).

Stoatin Brae Country Club is recognized for its unique layout and location atop one of Kalamazoo County’s highest points. The course measures 6,742 yards from the back tees with a par of 71.

Weather forecasts for Augusta predict sunny skies with temperatures around 70 degrees Fahrenheit during the tournament days. Winds are expected to stay below 10 miles per hour with no precipitation anticipated.

Northern Michigan’s women's golf team recently finished eighth out of nine teams at the Flyer Fall Intercollegiate. Maddy Martens achieved a top-20 individual finish, placing 17th overall with a three-round score of +27. Payton Donnelly was second on the team and tied for 23rd overall at +31. Abbie Pietila finished tied for 27th (+35). Aavra Relich concluded tied for 41st (+50), while Olivia Brill ended at +69.

Last season at the Panther Invitational, NMU placed tenth among thirteen teams. Martens led the Wildcats that weekend by finishing 28th individually with a weekend total of +15.

Davenport has started its season strongly, highlighted by a second-place finish at The Flyer Invitational where four golfers placed inside the top ten on the leaderboard. Purdue Northwest has had varied results this season but saw two golfers finish in the top fifteen at their latest event. Parkside broke multiple program records this fall and had its first collegiate top-ten finish by freshman Lily Zicarelli. Lewis recently won its own Flyer Invitational with Sophia Lawler taking first place individually.

SVSU's season includes an eighth-place finish at both the Folds of Honor Challenge and Warrior Invitational, led by Christina Nagy’s performances. Ohio Dominican has seen strong showings from Maria Briceno Vargas and Sydney Devore in early tournaments this year. Northwood set a new program record for lowest team score over 54 holes earlier this season under Nemo Cheewasupakorn’s leadership. West Chester is unbeaten so far this fall with multiple individual champions including Cara Murphy and Hanna Lignell.
