The Northern Michigan University women's golf team completed its second-to-last tournament of the 2025-26 fall season at the Flyer Fall Intercollegiate in Lemont, Illinois. The Wildcats finished eighth out of nine teams with a total score of 1,007 strokes, which was 143 over par.
Host team Lewis University led the event with a score of +49, followed by Davenport at +63. Parkside, another GLIAC conference member, took third place with a score of +113.
Maddy Martens secured a top-20 finish for NMU, placing 17th individually after three rounds at +27. Martens had a challenging start to her final round but improved during the middle stretch and ended with an overall round of +11. She tied for fourth in par-five scoring average (5.00), tied for eighth in birdies (five), and tied for twelfth in pars (27).
Payton Donnelly matched Martens' best single-round score on the team and finished second among NMU players and tied for 23rd overall at +31. Donnelly made her fourth birdie of the tournament on the par-four 16th hole.
Abbie Pietila narrowly missed finishing in the top 25, ending tied for 27th with a three-round total of +35. Pietila's final round included one birdie on the par-four 17th.
Aavra Relich contributed to the team's scoring by tying for 41st place at +50, achieving her best round on the last day and making her only birdie on hole nine. Olivia Brill completed NMU's lineup, shooting +69 across all three rounds.
The course proved difficult throughout the tournament; scores averaged 83.62 in round three and an overall average of 82.79 over all rounds played. Lewis University and Davenport dominated individual results as well, taking all six top spots led by Sophia Lawler (+7) from Lewis.
"The 'Cats finished the tournament in eighth of nine teams, finishing with a three round total of 1,007 (+143). Host Lewis (+49) and GLIAC foe Davenport (+63) cleared the rest of the field comfortably, as conference team Parkside (+113) finished third," according to NMU Athletics.
