Three Northern Michigan golfers rank in top 25 after day one at Flyer Fall Intercollegiate

Three members of the Northern Michigan Wildcats women's golf team are positioned in the top 25 after two rounds at the Flyer Fall Intercollegiate, held at Cog Hill Golf & Country Club in Lemont, Illinois. The tournament features nine teams and is played on a par-72 course measuring 6,081 yards.

Maddy Martens leads the Wildcats with a two-round total of +16, placing her 14th overall. Martens began her day four over par in her first four holes but recovered with a stretch of ten holes where she shot one under par. She finished round one with a score of 78 (+6), including a back nine of 35 (-1). In round two, Martens recorded another birdie but added four strokes to her first-round score for an 82 (+10). Her total of 21 pars ties her for fourth among all competitors.

Payton Donnelly and Abbie Pietila are tied for 24th place with scores of +20 after two rounds. Donnelly closed out her first round with a birdie and had an impressive finish in round two, going one under par over her last twelve holes. Pietila started with an 83 (+11) in the opening round and improved by two strokes in round two, recording birdies on both rounds at the sixth hole.

Aavra Relich completed both rounds for the Wildcats with scores of 93 (+21) and 87 (+15), showing improvement by reducing six strokes between rounds. Olivia Brill posted identical rounds of 95 to finish at +46 after two days.

As a team, Northern Michigan sits ten strokes behind Lewis (B) at +102 and remains close to Upper Iowa (+87) and Quincy (+84). Host Lewis leads the field at +25, followed by Davenport at +37 and William Jewell at +64.

Kyra Simon and Sophia Lawler from Lewis share the individual lead at +4. Venetia Chap from Davenport is one stroke back following a second-round score of 70 (-2), which is currently the lowest single-round score in the tournament.
