The Northern Michigan University women's swim and dive team completed their opening weekend at the PEIF Pool with a strong performance, winning every event on the schedule. The Wildcats secured all eight first-place finishes and swept the podium in four events, taking 20 out of a possible 24 podium spots.
Northern Michigan finished with 501 points, ahead of the Huskies (393), Panthers (245), and Lakers (17). Several athletes achieved multiple first-place finishes, including Anika Wright in the 1000 free and as part of the 400 free relay, Vicky Burda in the 100 free and relay, and Kalina Ceglinski in both diving events.
The meet began with the 1000 freestyle where Wright led a sweep for NMU. She was followed by teammates Geyer and Santi. In other races, Pierce won the second heat of the 200 backstroke to take first place overall, while Casas finished third.
In the 100 freestyle, NMU swimmers took the top five places. Burda won with Stockinger and Keen joining her on the podium. Arbic and Schneider placed fourth and fifth respectively.
NMU also claimed all three top spots in both breaststroke and relay events. DeCarlo led Zimpel and Araujo in sweeping the 200 breaststroke podium. The Wildcats’ ‘A’ team—Keen, Wright, Arbic, Burda—won the 400 free relay just ahead of their ‘B’ squad.
In diving competition, Ceglinski took first place in both one-meter and three-meter events while Daly placed second each time.
Other notable performances included Geyer’s win in the 200 fly followed by Moore in second place.
With this performance to open their season at home, Northern Michigan’s women’s swim and dive team established themselves as early leaders among regional competitors.
