For the first time since October 2019, the Northern Michigan University (NMU) women's cross country team has entered the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Poll, securing the No. 15 spot.

The Wildcats' recent performance at the Lucian Rosa Invite contributed to their national ranking. They finished fourth out of 23 teams, surpassing several nationally-ranked opponents including CSU Pueblo (previously ranked 15th), Lee (12th), Minnesota State (24th), Cal Poly Pomona (26th), and Parkside (25th). Within the Midwest region, NMU is currently ranked fifth behind Grand Valley State, Cedarville, Lewis, and Walsh.

Madi Szymanski has been a leading force for NMU this season. She was named GLIAC Athlete of the Week in consecutive weeks and has led her team in every race so far. Szymanski placed fifth at both the Phoenix Open and Roy Griak Invite before finishing ninth at last weekend's Lucian Rosa Invite.

This marks NMU's highest national ranking since 2016. The Wildcats are scheduled to compete next at the Royals Challenge in Charlotte, North Carolina on October 10.
