The Northern Michigan University men's golf team finished fourth out of five teams at the Motor City Shakedown in Dearborn, Michigan. The Wildcats posted a three-round score of 921 (+57), coming within five strokes of tying the program's tenth-best three-round total. The team recorded 34 birdies over 54 holes, which is the fourth-highest number for NMU in that span.
In the opening round, NMU shot a 295 (+7), trailing only Davenport, who led with a score under par. The Wildcats followed with rounds of 316 (+28) and 310 (+22). Wayne State won the tournament with a +15 total, while Davenport and Roosevelt finished second and third, respectively. Purdue Northwest placed fifth.
NMU led all teams in par-three scoring and ranked third in both total birdies and pars among the field. The TPC of Michigan course played as a par-72 at 7,057 yards for all three rounds.
Tyler Annala was the top performer for NMU, finishing 14th individually with scores of 71 (-1), 79 (+7), and 78 (+6) for a total of +12. Annala made four birdies in his first six holes and had six birdies in his opening round, equaling his performance from last year's event on the same date. He added six more birdies over the final two rounds for a total of twelve, which ranks third-most in program history.
Arthur Ylitalo and Levi Pennala both tied for 17th place with totals of +13 (229). Ylitalo opened with an even-par 72 and five birdies, while Pennala was second among all players in total pars (37) and par-three scoring average.
Harvey Ylitalo finished tied for 22nd at +20 (236), ranking fourth among all players in par-three scoring average. Jacob Daavettila made an eagle on the par-five 17th hole during his opening round—the fifteenth eagle in Wildcat history—and ended at +25 (241). Brady Badker completed the lineup with a three-round score of +32 (248).
The Wildcats will continue their fall season at the Flyer Fall Intercollegiate in Lemont, Illinois on October 6-7.
