NMU cross country runner Madi Szymanski has been named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Athlete of the Week for the second week in a row. Szymanski, a senior, achieved her third top-10 finish of the season at the Lucian Rosa Invite, where she placed ninth out of more than 200 runners. She completed the race with a season-best time of 21:37.1.
Her performance contributed to Northern Michigan University's fourth-place team finish at the event. The Wildcats finished ahead of several nationally ranked teams, including CSU Pueblo, Lee, Minnesota State, Cal Poly Pomona, and Parkside. Last week, Northern Michigan was receiving votes in the USTFCCCA National Poll and may move into the top-30 for the first time since 2019.
Szymanski had previously earned GLIAC Athlete of the Week honors after leading NMU with a fifth-place finish at the Roy Griak Invite with a time of 23:15.8. She also led her team in their season opener at the Phoenix Open by finishing fifth with a time of 22:14.8.
"I am honored to be recognized again and proud to represent my team," said Szymanski.
