Northern Michigan University’s athletic teams are preparing for a busy week of competition across several sports, with events scheduled from September 29 to October 5.
The men’s golf team will compete in the Motor City Shakedown tournament, starting on Monday, September 29, with the first round teeing off at 9 a.m. The second round is set for Tuesday, September 30. Last season at this event, Arthur Ylitalo finished in the top ten and earned All-Tournament honors.
On Friday, October 3, the swim and dive team will host St. Cloud State and Davenport in a tri-meet at home with sessions at 10 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., continuing Saturday morning at 10 a.m. This marks the opening weekend of competition for NMU’s swim and dive athletes.
The women’s soccer team will play two home conference matches this weekend after earning their first home conference win last week with a decisive victory over Davenport. The Wildcats face Ferris State on Friday at 1 p.m. and Saginaw Valley on Sunday at noon.
NMU volleyball continues its season after defeating Parkside Rangers—handing them their first loss—and sweeping Roosevelt Lakers last weekend. The Wildcats will play away games against Saginaw Valley on Friday at 6 p.m. and Lake Superior State on Saturday at 4 p.m.
Football returns to action following a bye week, traveling to face Saginaw Valley on Saturday at 2 p.m., with both teams coming off their respective bye weeks.
Hockey opens its season on the road against UMass Minutemen, who finished last year as NCAA Tournament semifinalists and enter this season ranked sixteenth nationally. The Wildcats will play games against UMass on Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon.
Men’s soccer rounds out the week by playing away against St. Cloud State on Sunday at 1 p.m.
