Northern Michigan women's golf finishes first round tied for twelfth at Bulldog Fall Classic

The Northern Michigan University women's golf team completed the first round of the Bulldog Fall Classic in Big Rapids, Michigan, finishing tied for 12th out of 13 teams with a score of 349 (+61). The team shared this position with Kentucky Wesleyan.

Grand Valley State and Ferris State led the tournament after the opening round, with scores of +10 and +12 respectively. Grand Valley State was ahead of Gannon by nine strokes and Davenport by 16. The event took place at Katke Golf Club, which played as a par-72 course over 5,959 yards. The average score across all players was 82.59 for the round.

Abbie Pietila and Maddy Martens were the top performers for Northern Michigan, each shooting an 83 (+11) to tie for 49th place among 83 competitors. Martens made two birdies on the par-four 14th and par-four 16th holes, which were notable as only twelve birdies were recorded on those holes by all players combined. Pietila recorded seven pars and made a birdie on the par-five 18th hole.

The individual leaderboard is currently led by Alexandria LeCureux of Gannon and Lea Stotz of Grand Valley State, both posting rounds of 70 (-2). Kamryn Shannon from Ferris State trails them by two shots.

Other contributors to NMU's team score included Payton Donnelly (90), Aavra Relich (93), and Abby Luke (96). Donnelly birdied the par-five third hole while Relich started her round with a birdie on the par-four tenth. Gabriella Moreau and Olivia Brill competed as individuals for NMU, each scoring a 94. Moreau’s round included a birdie on the par-four twelfth hole.

The Wildcats will complete their participation in the tournament tomorrow. Tee times have not yet been announced; updates will be available on nmuwildcats.com and NMU Golf social media channels.
