The Northern Michigan University women's golf team finished in 13th place out of 13 teams at the Bulldog Fall Classic, held in Big Rapids, Michigan. The team posted a two-day total score of 680 (+104). After an initial round of 349, the Wildcats improved their performance on the second day by reducing their score to 331 (+43).
Grand Valley State led the tournament with a final score of +7, finishing twenty strokes ahead of host Ferris State. The event took place at Katke Golf Club, which played slightly longer on the second day at 6,002 yards compared to 5,959 yards during the first round. Despite the increased length, overall scores improved across the field, with an average of 81.11 strokes per player compared to 82.59 previously.
Maddy Martens recorded the lowest round for Northern Michigan on day two with a score of 79 (+7), moving up five spots to finish in 44th place. "After a rocky start that saw Martens shoot +5 in her opening six holes, Martens shot even in her next ten, featuring eight pars and one birdie." Martens made a birdie on the par five seventh hole.
Abbie Pietila delivered the team's second-best round with an 82 (+10) and was second among Wildcats competitors. Aavra Relich and Payton Donnelly also contributed to team scoring by moving up three and four spots respectively; Relich shot an 84 (+12) and Donnelly posted an 86 (+14). Relich had a birdie on the par four tenth hole while Donnelly made consecutive birdies on holes three and four.
Abby Luke completed her round with a score of 100 (+28). Gabriella Moreau and Olivia Brill participated as individuals for NMU, shooting rounds of 91 (+19) and 94 (+22), respectively.
The Wildcats will continue their fall season at the Flyer Fall Intercollegiate hosted at Cog Hill Golf and Country Club in Lemont, Illinois from October 6-7.
