Matt Majkrzak, head coach of the Northern Michigan Wildcats men's basketball team, announced that Bennett Basich has joined the program as a transfer. Basich arrives after spending one season at UW-Green Bay, a Division I school in the Horizon League, where he redshirted.

Basich had a successful high school career at Arrowhead High School in Wisconsin. He was part of two teams that finished as state runners-up and earned First Team All-State honors. He was also named First Team All-Conference twice in the Classic 8 Conference and received the Classic 8 Player of the Year award as a senior after averaging 20.4 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game. In addition to his athletic achievements, Basich was recognized on the Academic All-State Team each year during high school.

"Bennett comes to us from Green Bay after redshirting his freshman year," said Majkrzak. "He's someone we've watched play a lot during his tremendous high school and AAU career, and have always been extremely impressed with. His energy and competitiveness are second to none, and we are thrilled to add another big time winner to our group. He's got a ton of experience playing in championship games, and he's always elevated his game to match the big moments. He has a tremendous feel for the game on both sides of the ball, and can fill the entire box score."

Basich is now one of two Division I transfer guards joining Northern Michigan for the upcoming season; Charlie Miller from Northern Iowa is also new to the roster. With these additions along with an experienced frontcourt and a versatile group of underclassmen, expectations remain high for Northern Michigan as they aim for their fourth straight GLIAC Championship in the 2025-26 season.
