The Northern Michigan Men's Basketball team has been recognized for its academic achievements, receiving the NABC Team Academic Excellence Award for the sixth year in a row under head coach Matt Majkrzak. The announcement was made by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), highlighting outstanding academic performance by men's college basketball teams and players.
Players Jackson Dudek, Dylan Kuehl, and Sam Privet were named to the NABC Honors Court for maintaining high academic standards. This is their second consecutive year receiving this honor. Dudek studies Financial Management, while Kuehl and Privet are both majoring in Construction Management.
The NABC Team Academic Excellence Awards are given to programs with a team GPA of 3.0 or higher for the 2024-25 academic year. The Honors Court recognizes junior, senior, and graduate student-athletes with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher.
"Education is one of the NABC's five core values, and we are proud to recognize the academic accomplishments of these programs and individual student-athletes across our sport," stated Craig Robinson, NABC Executive Director. "The dedication and hard work of these athletes, along with their coaches and support staff members who prioritize academic success, deserves to be widely celebrated."
For the 2024-25 season, over 2,400 players were named to the Honors Court, and nearly 400 programs received Team Academic Excellence Awards. A full list of Honors Court recipients can be accessed online.
In addition to their academic success, NMU won the GLIAC Tournament title and participated in the NCAA Tournament for a third consecutive year. Dudek was honored as GLIAC Tournament MVP, while Kuehl earned spots on both the All-GLIAC First Team and All-Defensive Team for three straight seasons.
