State Representative Ken Borton has led an initiative to designate June 2025 as Great Outdoors Month in Michigan, receiving bipartisan support from the state House. The resolution acknowledges Michigan's extensive natural resources and outdoor recreational opportunities.
“Michigan is home to some of the most breathtaking natural resources in the country – over 100 state parks and recreation areas, 11,000 inland lakes, 36,000 miles of rivers and streams, and 13,000 miles of trails – all of which invite us to explore, relax, and reconnect,” said Borton. He highlighted activities such as hiking, skiing, snowmobiling, fishing, camping, and wildlife observation available throughout the state.
Borton emphasized the economic impact of outdoor recreation in Michigan: “Outdoor recreation also fuels our economy – supporting over 118,000 jobs and generating nearly $14 billion annually.” He stressed the importance of preserving these lands for future generations.
The House approved Borton's House Resolution 123 last week.
