Rep. Jack Bergman, representing Michigan's 1st district, has introduced a bipartisan resolution aimed at reinforcing the defense partnership between the United States and Israel. Joined by Representatives Don Davis from North Carolina, Jared Golden from Maine, and Craig Goldman from Texas, Bergman's initiative seeks to expand defense cooperation amidst growing global threats.
The resolution underlines the strategic alliance between the two countries, emphasizing shared democratic values and regional stability priorities. It highlights ongoing military collaboration efforts such as joint projects on missile defense systems like Iron Dome, David’s Sling, and Arrow. Rep. Bergman remarked on the significance of this partnership: “Our partnership with Israel is rooted in trust, strength, and shared national security interests.”
Rep. Don Davis echoed these sentiments by noting the importance of bilateral defense collaboration in countering global extremist threats: “In an increasingly dangerous world... our partnership... counters the threats posed by global extremists.” Congressman Jared Golden supported this view by acknowledging Israel's proactive stance against modern threats: “Israel has stepped up to the plate to counter the drone and digital tactics favored by our enemies.”
Craig Goldman reiterated U.S. support for Israel: “For decades, the United States has stood shoulder to shoulder with Israel... This measure reaffirms our security cooperation.”
The resolution calls attention to advancements in joint defense initiatives such as counter-unmanned aircraft systems and anti-tunneling technologies developed through cooperation at the Irregular Warfare Support Directorate. It also emphasizes prioritizing emerging technologies during negotiations over the U.S.-Israel Memorandum of Understanding.
If passed, this resolution would confirm congressional backing for Israel's self-defense rights and promote further investment in bilateral defense initiatives. The aim is to ensure that Israel maintains its qualitative military edge in a volatile region.
Rep. Bergman concluded with a message of solidarity: “This resolution reinforces a message our adversaries must hear loud and clear: the United States stands firmly with Israel—today, tomorrow, and in the future.”
