President Donald J. Trump is set to sign a memorandum aimed at curbing the spread of invasive carp in the Great Lakes Basin and its surrounding areas. This directive will push for the implementation of effective measures to prevent these species from expanding their presence.
Recently, Michigan Republican Representative Jack Bergman, along with fellow GOP representatives John Moolenaar, Tim Walberg, and John James, addressed a letter to Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker. The letter criticized the governor's decision to halt the Brandon Road Interbasin Project, which they believe threatens efforts to protect the Great Lakes from invasive Asian Carp.
Rep. Bergman expressed his support for President Trump's actions: "I once again commend President Trump for delivering on his promises to Michigan. By advancing the long-overdue construction of a new Soo Lock, accelerating the Line 5 tunnel project, securing a critical new fighter mission at Selfridge, and taking decisive action to prevent the spread of invasive Asian Carp in our Great Lakes, President Trump has proven his unwavering commitment to Michigan’s infrastructure, economy, and environment."
The initiative is seen as part of ongoing efforts by federal and state officials to address environmental concerns in the region.
