The Northern Michigan University (NMU) Wildcats had a busy weekend in their athletics department, participating in several competitions from April 25 to April 28, 2025.
On Friday, April 25, the NMU women's golf team competed in the GLIAC Championships, finishing eighth. Hailey Bolander achieved a score of +9, placing 31st overall. Other team members included Abbie Pietila with a +10, Maggie Pietila with a +13, Maddy Martens scoring +14, and Payton Dube with a +17.
Saturday, April 26, marked a slight improvement for the women's golf team as they took seventh place, shaving eight strokes off their round-one score. Noteworthy individual performances included Maggie Pietila with +30, Payton Dube with +29, Maddy Martens with +23, and both Hailey Bolander and Abbie Pietila scoring +18 to tie for 27th place.
In lacrosse, NMU secured a 9-8 victory over Concordia-St. Paul on Senior Day. The game saw an explosive second half with eight goals, four of which occurred within nearly a minute. Josie Lakosky and Sophie Langsdale were recognized with GLIAC Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week honors respectively for their performances.
The track and field team had a successful meet at De Pere, achieving seven victories, including 10 personal records. Standout athletes included Ellyse Wolfrath in the 100m hurdles, Ella DeBruyn in the 1500m, Ahna Larson in the 100m and 200m, Ciara Ostrenga in the 400m, Wilme Els in javelin, and Emily Czeiszperger in the pole vault.
In Greco-Roman wrestling, NMU athletes participated in the 2025 CLAW U.S. Open in Las Vegas from Thursday to Saturday. Landon Drury emerged as a national champion in the U20 (63 kg) category, receiving All-America accolades alongside teammates Julian Slaastad and Hank Baronowski. Max Black (60 kg) and Payton Jacobson (87 kg) became Senior U.S. Open champions, and along with Kaden Ercanbrack, advanced to the U23 World Team. The event also recognized Black, Jacobson, Ercanbrack, Jimmy Hustoles, Kenneth Crosby, Patrick Curran, and Timothy Eubanks with All-America honors.
