Northern Michigan University's athletic teams experienced a varied weekend with lacrosse and track and field competing in notable events.
On Saturday, April 5, the NMU lacrosse team faced Concordia-St. Paul and experienced a 13-9 defeat. The Wildcats trailed 5-2 in the first quarter, marking the first time they conceded five goals in a quarter to CSP since the last loss against the Golden Bears on April 13, 2022. This loss ended a six-game winning streak against their opponent.
In track and field, NMU secured fourth place out of nine at the Ashton May Invitational. Ellyse Wolfrath made headlines by setting a school record in the 100m hurdles, clocking in at 13.82 seconds. NMU athletes won several events, with victories from Wolfrath, Skylar Grubb in the 5000m, and Beverly Harper in the 800m. The team also achieved five additional top-three finishes.
The following day, April 6, the lacrosse team rebounded with a 15-4 victory over the College of Saint Benedict. They dominated the second quarter, scoring seven unanswered goals, marking the fifth occasion this season where NMU scored seven or more goals in one quarter. Josie Lakosky matched her career-best by scoring seven goals.
