The Northern Michigan University women's lacrosse team will host the Davenport Panthers and Grand Valley State Lakers this weekend in two key Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) matchups. The Wildcats recently experienced a mixed weekend on the road, falling to No. 9 Indianapolis 18-3 before bouncing back with a dominant 20-1 win over GLIAC newcomer Saginaw Valley State. Hannah Jabas led NMU's offense with six goals against the Cardinals.

The Wildcats, aiming for momentum, will face Davenport at 5 p.m. on Friday, March 28, and will then take on the reigning GLIAC champions, the Grand Valley State University Lakers, on Sunday, March 30, at noon. Attendance at the Superior Dome is free, and the matches can be streamed on FloLive.

NMU currently holds a 6-3 overall record and is 1-0 in conference play. Their recent victory over Saginaw Valley was a significant 20-1 win. Sophomore Josie Lakosky is leading the Wildcats' offense with 47 points, having been named the GLIAC Player of the Week twice, as well as the IWLCA Co-Offensive Player of the Week. Lakosky also holds the NMU single-game points record. Other key contributors include freshman Hannah Jabas, senior Taylor Priestley, and redshirt freshman Zoe Montgomery, who has a save percentage of 49.5%.

Davenport enters with a 5-2 overall record and is on a five-game winning streak. The game against NMU will be their first conference game this season. Senior Blakely Malpass leads their offense with 25 points. The Wildcats have a 5-8 record against the Panthers but have won their last four meetings.

Grand Valley State, ranked 17th and 16th nationally by IWLCA and USA Lacrosse respectively, has a 5-3 overall record. The Lakers recently faced losses against top-ranked teams Maryville and UIndy. The team's offense is spearheaded by senior Ashleigh Rothe, while goalkeepers Kaylyn Cater and Sarah Krause have shared duties. Notably, freshman Kendra Swope and junior Sarah Krause received recent GLIAC weekly honors.

NMU has yet to claim a victory against GVSU in program history, standing 0-16 in their matchups dating back to 2017. This weekend presents another opportunity for NMU to attempt to break that streak.
