The Northern Michigan University women's lacrosse team achieved a decisive victory over Saginaw Valley State University (SVSU) with a 20-1 win. This marked the first meeting between the two teams in program history. The Wildcats, now standing at 6-3 overall and 1-0 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC), established their dominance early on with a five-goal streak within the first five minutes of play.
Hannah Jabas led NMU's offense by matching her career-high of six goals in one game. Sophie Langsdale contributed four goals, while Taylor Priestley and Abby Sisson each added three to the scoreboard. Additional contributions came from Josie Lakosky, Avery Lorinser, and Camryn Mayer.
Goalkeepers Lauren Esposito and Zoe Montgomery both made saves during the match. The Wildcats matched their season-high single-game goal total and set a new season-high for ground balls with 38, spearheaded by Sisson's nine ground balls—a personal best for her.
The Wildcats are scheduled to return home to face Davenport and Grand Valley at the Superior Dome on March 28 and March 30, respectively.
The game began with NMU taking control after winning the first draw possession. Jabas opened the scoring, followed by goals from Langsdale and Priestley, resulting in a 6-0 lead by the end of the first quarter. Despite SVSU managing to score once in the second quarter, NMU maintained their momentum through goals from Langsdale, Lakosky, Lorinser, Priestley, and Sisson to lead 12-1 at halftime.
In subsequent quarters, NMU continued to extend their lead with additional goals from Mayer and Jabas among others. The match concluded with a significant victory for NMU as they secured their sixth win of the season.
