The Northern Michigan University (NMU) women's alpine ski team concluded their participation in the giant slalom event at the USCSA Nationals, where two athletes achieved All-America honors.
The competition format involved 143 skiers posting a result in the first run. The top 30 times from this run advanced to the second round, starting with the skier ranked 30th and finishing with the fastest. NMU's Tommie Springer, Ainsley Kirk, and Reagan Olli secured spots in this group after the first run.
Reagan Olli recorded a time of 1:05.89 in her initial attempt, positioning herself in 14th place heading into the afternoon. Despite a strong start in her second run, Olli's race ended prematurely when she lost a ski and did not finish (DNF).
Ainsley Kirk was next on the course for her second attempt. After achieving the 11th fastest time of 1:05.23 in her first run, she posted a time of 1:05.56 in her second run, totaling 2:10.79. Initially placed second upon completion of her runs, Kirk ultimately finished 11th overall, earning a second-team All-America honor.
Tommie Springer was the last Wildcat to compete that day. She completed her first run with the fifth-fastest time of 1:03.85 and followed up with an 11th fastest time of 1:04.78 in her second run. Her combined time of 2:08.63 placed her sixth overall, securing another second-team All-America honor for NMU by narrowly missing out on first-team recognition by just 0.51 seconds.
The morning saw some disappointment for NMU as both Maddy Stern and Ella Wichert did not finish their initial runs.
Live results are available online, and team results will be updated once released.
The competition continues tomorrow with the men's giant slalom event beginning at 12:20 p.m. ET (9:20 AM local time).
