After a dramatic comeback, the NMU lacrosse team experienced its first defeat of the season with a 14-13 loss in overtime against Quincy University. The match took place under challenging weather conditions, including temperatures in the low thirties, rain, and strong winds.

NMU Wildcats, who were undefeated before this game, faced their first deficit of the season during the third quarter. They managed to equalize by scoring three consecutive goals towards the end of regulation time, with Taylor Priestley scoring the crucial goal to push the game into overtime.

Quincy Hawks secured their victory with Anni Moran's five-goal performance, including the decisive goal in overtime. Josie Lakosky led NMU's attack with five goals and an assist, marking her fifth career game with such statistics. Goalkeeper Zoe Montgomery made eight saves from 16 shots on target for NMU.

The Wildcats scored six free position goals out of eight attempts and will continue their spring break trip with a game against Missouri Western on March 7 at Quincy Lacrosse Stadium.

Both teams had moments of dominance throughout the game. NMU initially led 3-0 but saw Quincy rally back to tie by the end of the first quarter. By halftime, NMU held a narrow lead despite being outshot by Quincy.

In the second half, Quincy took control early in the third quarter but NMU managed to level again through Lakosky’s hat-trick goal. However, Quincy's subsequent three-goal streak put them ahead once more until NMU's late surge tied it up again at full-time.

The overtime period was tense as both teams sought victory. Montgomery made a significant save for NMU before Quincy's winning play ended their comeback attempt.
