Pietila leads NMU golf team at Saddlebrook Spring Kickoff

The Northern Michigan University (NMU) women's golf team commenced its 2025 spring season at the Saddlebrook Spring Kickoff held at the Saddlebrook Resort in Wesley Chapel, Florida. After completing the first of three rounds, the Wildcats are positioned sixth with a score of +60.

The competition is currently led by Marian University with a score of +22, followed by Bethel University at +37. The course, measuring 5,967 yards and set as a par 72, recorded an average round score of 91.28. The easiest hole yielded only three birdies and averaged a score of 4.67.

In terms of team performance, NMU ranked sixth in par three scoring (+27), sixth in par four scoring (+74), and fifth in par five scoring (+23). They also achieved the third-highest number of pars with 35.

Maggie Pietila leads NMU after round one with a score of +6 (78), placing her just three shots behind the leader. The top positions are occupied by golfers from Marian and Bethel, with Pietila holding fifth place. She began on hole 12 and recorded scores of 39 on both the front and back nines. Notably, she was the only team member to secure a birdie on the challenging 360-yard par four seventh hole.

Maddy Martens follows Pietila for NMU, ranking second on the team and 16th overall with a score of +13 (85). Martens started her round on the tenth hole and completed it with scores of 42 on the back nine and 43 on the front nine.

Hailey Bolander (+18) and Abbie Pietila (+23) contributed to NMU's team total, finishing in 26th and 32nd places respectively after 18 holes. Gabriella Moreau (+29) sits in 36th place while Payton Dube (+35) holds the 39th position. Competing individually, Abby Luke scored +27 to rank 35th, while Olivia Brill matched Moreau's +29 to tie for 36th place.
