The Northern Michigan University men's basketball team secured a significant victory against Parkside with an 83-70 win on Thursday night. The Wildcats dominated the first half, leading 43-27, and maintained their advantage in the second half to clinch the game.
Northern Michigan's shooting performance was impressive, with a season-best 56% from the field and 47.1% from beyond the arc. The team's starting frontcourt contributed significantly, combining for 48 points. Jackson Dudek and Dylan Kuehl each scored 17 points, while Sam Privet added 14. Gerald Gittens also scored 14 points, and Brian Parzych provided an additional 12 points off the bench.
Parkside's Jack Rose led all scorers with a career-high of 33 points. Both teams collected 32 rebounds each, but Northern Michigan had a slight edge in assists with a total of 12 compared to Parkside's eight.
This victory marks NMU's fifth consecutive win over Parkside and improves their conference record to 12-7. Currently holding the fourth seed, Northern Michigan is positioned to host a GLIAC tournament quarterfinals game if they secure another win against Purdue Northwest on Saturday.
The game began with Parkside taking an early lead before Northern Michigan responded with a strong run to take control. Key contributions came from Kuehl and Parzych during this period. Despite Parkside's efforts to close the gap later in the game, including a notable run that brought them within nine points, Northern Michigan held firm until the end.
Looking ahead, NMU will conclude their regular season at Purdue Northwest on March 1st at 4 p.m. A victory would ensure home-court advantage for the upcoming GLIAC Quarterfinals scheduled for March 5th.
