The Northern Michigan University women's basketball team secured the No. 2 seed for the GLIAC Tournament with a narrow 69-68 victory over Parkside on Thursday night in Kenosha, Wisconsin. The Wildcats managed to outscore their opponents 24-19 in the final quarter, marking the largest lead either team held during any period of play.

Abi Fraaza was instrumental off the bench, contributing a season-high 20 points and securing nine rebounds. Mackenzie Holzwart also recorded a season-high with 18 points and made a crucial three-pointer that gave NMU a lead they maintained until the end.

The Wildcats' overall shooting percentage was 43.5%, while Parkside's was slightly higher at 46.4%. Despite struggling from beyond the arc, NMU led in rebounds and capitalized on offensive opportunities.

With this win, NMU will host the GLIAC Quarterfinals on March 5, facing either Michigan Tech or Saginaw Valley State based on upcoming results.

Holzwart began the game with an early steal and layup but Parkside quickly responded by taking an early lead. The Wildcats fought back to tie and eventually took control late in the second half.

In closing moments, Holzwart assisted Fraaza before scoring herself to ensure victory. Sarah Newcomer added critical free throws as well. Though Parkside had a chance to clinch it in final seconds, Sydney Whitehouse's rebound sealed NMU's win.

NMU will conclude their regular season against Purdue Northwest on March 1.
